WHAT IS THE SOYBEAN CHECKOFF?

The Soybean Promotion, Research and Consumer Information Act was adopted by the US Department of Agriculture in 1990. Its purpose is to benefit soybean Producers by gaining access to new markets, creating new uses, increasing productivity through research and engaging consumers on the value of soy. To fund these initiatives, producers contribute .5% of the net market value of every bushel sold to the soybean checkoff.

WHO PAYS THE SOYBEAN CHECKOFF?

All soybean producers in all states participate in the program. The National Soybean Checkoff is not in addition to any state assessment.

WHO COLLECTS THE SOYBEAN CHECKOFF?

The First Purchaser — whoever pays the producer — is responsible for collecting and remitting the soybean checkoff at the time the farmer is paid. First Purchasers are required to collect on all soybeans purchased regardless of the state of origin and remit to their state’s Qualified State Soybean Board (QSSB).
